The Importance of Taking Advantage of Amazon and Facebook Features for Authors
If you are an author with books or ebooks on Amazon, then you should be taking advantage of features that Amazon offers.
After all, with so many new ebooks and books being published every day, how will your book get found on Amazon?
Yes, social media participation, blogging, and other online marketing techniques are very important for authors.
But as your books are on Amazon, why not start at the source?
(For an additional explanation of why I think Amazon is so important for authors, see my blog post “Why I Am Putting All My Eggs (Books) in Amazon’s Basket” at http://budurl.com/Amazonbasket )
As I explained in my new ebook “TOP TIPS FOR HOW TO MARKET YOUR BOOK ON AMAZON AND FACEBOOK: Action Steps You Can Do Immediately Whether You are Traditionally Published or Self-Published,” you start with making sure you have a robust Amazon public profile, which anyone with an Amazon account can have.
With this robust public profile, if you do reviews on Amazon in your genre (and you should), you will be making available information about yourself to other readers of books in your genre.
The second step on Amazon is to create an Author Central profile, which enables you among other things to bring in your blog feeds to this profile. Especially if you have more than one book, this is a good page link to share with others as all your books can be here (if you “tell” Amazon which books are yours as explained in TOP TIPS).
After you have optimized your presence on Amazon, you can do the same on Facebook. With a basic personal profile account in your own name per Facebook’s terms of service, you can create an author Facebook Page that can include an Amazon store right on the Page. And you can use your Author Central profile link as a hot link in the ABOUT section of your author Facebook Page.
With a Facebook Page you will need to consistently add new information so that the Page is not static. As an author, though, this is an opportunity to engage with your prospective book fans. Share information besides “selling” your books so that your Page contains worthwhile content.
After you get more comfortable participating on Amazon and Facebook, you can branch out to other social media sites such as Twitter, LinkedIn and Pinterest if you have not already done so. In fact, if you are on LinkedIn, join the Book Marketing group that I founded and manage – www.LinkedInBookMarketing.com – and take part in some of the informative discussions.
LinkedIn tip: If you are going to take part in discussions, please use a headshot or cartoon drawing of yourself in your LinkedIn profile (which must be in your own name per LinkedIn’s terms of service). We like to see who is taking part in our discussions.
