The Latest From My Publisher
A year ago, I signed with Publish America to publish four of my novels. (You might have seen my previous blogs about my difficulties.) As I reported, they are a pay-as-you-go publisher. I know that the first novels I authored were total garbage. I often look at the word processing file, and cringe. How could I have been so bad?
As I soon learned those many months ago, Publish America does nothing to help its authors. Their disclaimer is simple: they publish exactly what the author wrote, no more, no less. How does that make money for the author and the publisher? It doesn’t. If I want publicity, I need to pay. If I was hoping the publishing company would think that if they sell my novels, it is good for both of us, I was wrong.
Now we have another wrinkle. I got an email telling me that my novel hasn’t sold any copies in the past year, and if I wanted to have my book rights returned to me, I could fork over $149.00. Hmmmmm. They want money to sell my book, and they want money to give me my rights back. I get shafted coming or going.
Publish America is the reason I will not go with a publishing house. My latest novel is The Alberta Connection, a Ryce Dalton novel, and it is available on Amazon. Don’t get suckered in by Publish America, or any other publishing house.
