An Interview with Elizabeth Vallone, Author of “Barbarossa’s Princess”
What is the working title of your book? Barbarossa’s Princess
Where did the idea come from for the book? My heroine’s son built many castles in Puglia, Italy. When I visited there I became fascinated by this unknown princess who was the richest princess in Christendom in the 12th century.
What genre does your book fall under? Historical Fiction
Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition? Kate Winslet would be perfect. She’s the right age and is physically very similar to my heroine, Constance.
What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book? Set in the 12th century, Barbarossa’s Princess is a tale of intrigue, betrayal, lust, violence.
Is your book self-published, published or represented by an agency? My work is represented by Idea Publications.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript? I would have to say off and on for about four years.
What other books or authors would you compare this story to within your genre? I would say Phillipa Gregory’s work is my inspiration and although my style is different I try to pattern myself after her works.
Who or What inspired you to write this book? I was fascinated to learn that Constance de Hauteville and I are both descended from Vikings. Perhaps we are relatives because once I started researching and writing, I could not stop.
What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest? By providing multisensory descriptions of life in Sicily and Germany, I transport the reader to the 12th century. There are many allusions to Arabic medical and beauty treatments used by royalty and describe the coronation of the emperor and the festivities that may have followed.
Where can we find your work? (Ex: Website links, blog links, publishers links) My work can be found on Amazon.com, Kindle (free to prime members), Barnes and Noble and by contacting Idea Publications at Idea1000@aol.com.
